The self paint fountain of Rome….

The Trevi Fountain in Rome has been visited by thousands of tourists over the last two centuries.

According to legend if you toss a coin backwards over your shoulder into the fountain you will one day return to visit Rome.

Starting in 1968 an unemployed man named Roberto Cercelletta would sneak out in the early morning, under cover of darkness to help himself to the coins. Some days he collected more than $1000.

In 2002 (after more than 30 years), local authorities cracked down on Cercelletta and now collect the coins themselves to contribute to the maintenance of the fountain.
